People always ask me how I stay motivated when I am incredibly so busy working long hours, six days a week whilst running a side business, studying, trying to have a social life and most importantly looking after my health and fitness.
It is no brainer that looking after your health and mental well-being should be a top priority before anything else. We also know the benefits of exercising regularly, watching what we put into our body and taking time to do things that make us truly happy increases our level of peak performance, which gives us the motivation to keep pushing forward towards our goals.
Sometimes not seeing the results you want after several tries and having days where I just don’t feel like doing anything at all can be very de-motivating, discouraging and before you know it we have wasted a day, week, month on procrastination. So here are five tips that keep me motivated in times of discouragement.
1. What motivates you? Knowing what motivates you is a great start to getting things done. For me, it’s seeing my businesses potential to grow, develop and bring in more income. It’s the gratefulness I have to be able to have my health, see, hear, touch, walk (the things we take for granted sometimes). It’s the lifestyle I live that motivates me to work harder for the bigger picture I have in my mind. It’s for my future family and children I want. All these examples play an important factor to what motivates me to be my best and work harder than yesterday.
2. Get organised: Anyone who knows me knows that I am an organized freak. I have developed a system that keeps me organised and on top of all tasks that I need to get done. I have lists for everything, I use a diary which I carry with me everywhere as well as my digital calendar on devices and I have a calendar in my office where I can visually see my whole month ahead.. Being highly organised keeps you productive and on top of all your important tasks.
3. Seek inspiration: Having a vision board where I see it on a daily basis is a great motivator for me to keep working hard. There is inspiration all around us, ‘seek and you shall find’. I meet a lot of people that have the success that I want and these people inspire me to want to do and be better. Magazines, blogs, books and even social media can be great sources of inspiration to get and keep you motivated.
4. Know your why: When times get tough and I feel like I’m not good enough, that I am incapable of something, when other people discourage me; I remember my why. Why did I start? Why do I want to be healthy? Why do I want a successful business? Why is it important for me to keep going? Being mindful of your why on a daily basis can be very powerful. Successful people are successful because they do what others will not do.
5. Empowering self-talk: Think about the successful motivational and inspirational speakers out there, Tony Robbins, Eric Thomas, Robin Sharma – too many to name. One key to success all these leaders have in common, is their own self talk and getting in the mindset for success. For example, I have a fear of public speaking, but before I have to do a speech there is a conditioning process I go through, which includes empowering self-talk right before I go out to speak to a group of people. Why am I doing this? What do I get out of it? Will this benefit other people? I can do this, I’m going to feel the fear and do it anyway, after all what is the worse that could happen? And if the worse happens, that’s okay because practice makes perfect.
Everyone has to start somewhere and along the way, people may make mistakes, stuff up on important things. However, everything you go through is a test of your will and strength. It is all a part of your growth process and the journey to success we are all striving to achieve.
